October at Perennial Smiles: 10 Years of Excellence & Halloween Tips for a Healthy Smile!

Fall is in full swing in North Canton, OH, and here at Perennial Smiles Orthodontics, we’re celebrating more than just pumpkins and costumes this October. We’re proud to share that we’ve won the Community Choice Award for Best Orthodontic Office for the 10th year in a row!

We’re incredibly grateful to our amazing patients and the North Canton community for your continued support. This honor motivates us every day to keep providing exceptional orthodontic care in a warm, friendly environment where your smile is our top priority.

Protect Your Braces This Halloween

We know that Halloween candy is a big part of October fun, especially for kids and teens in orthodontic treatment. But when it comes to braces and clear aligners, not all treats are created equal.

Here are some orthodontist-approved Halloween candy tips to keep your smile safe:

Best Candy for Braces:

  • Soft chocolates (without nuts or caramel)
  • Peanut butter cups
  • Plain M&Ms
  • Soft cookies or baked goods

Avoid These Candies:

  • Hard candies (Jolly Ranchers, lollipops)
  • Sticky or chewy candies (caramel, taffy, gummy bears)
  • Nuts and popcorn
  • Sour candies that can erode enamel

Remember, sticky and hard candies can break brackets or wires, setting your treatment back and requiring emergency orthodontic visits.

August Smiles: Back-to-School, Back to Braces!

As summer winds down and school gears up, August is the perfect time to refocus on routines—including orthodontic care! Whether you're a student heading back to class or a parent helping your child prepare, now’s a great moment to check in on those braces, aligners, and healthy smile habits.

Back-to-School, Braces Edition

Getting ready for a new school year often means shopping for supplies, setting schedules, and adjusting sleep routines. Don’t forget to include braces-friendly snacks, a travel toothbrush, and maybe even some extra wax in that backpack! A little prep goes a long way when it comes to keeping treatment on track during busy school days.

At Perennial Smiles, we love helping our patients feel confident in their smiles all year long—and that includes giving you tips to make the school transition a breeze.

Smile Goals for Fall

August is also a smart time to book a check-up or consultation if your child has been recommended for orthodontic care. Early fall is often less hectic than the holidays, and starting treatment now means visible progress by the new year!

Quick Tips for Success:

  • Stay on top of elastics or aligner wear—even during sports or after-school activities.
  • Pack water instead of sugary drinks to help protect enamel and appliances.
  • Keep up with hygiene: brushing after lunch at school helps avoid plaque buildup.

Thinking About Treatment?

If you or your child are ready to start your smile journey, Perennial Smiles would love to help! Our team will guide you through all the options—from traditional braces to clear aligners—so you can find the perfect fit for your lifestyle.

Let’s make this school year the best one yet—with confident smiles to match.

Hello, June! ☀️ Summer Tips from Your Ortho Family

June 24th, 2025

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Summer.png

Can you believe it’s already the end of June? School’s out, the sun is shining (finally!), and summer fun is in full swing. Whether you’re heading out on vacation, relaxing by the pool, or just soaking up some well-deserved downtime, we want to help you keep your smile shining bright all summer long.

At Perennial Smiles, we know summer can be a little unpredictable, so we put together a few quick tips to help you stay on track with your treatment while still enjoying all the things that make this season so great!

Traveling? Take Your Smile Kit!

If you’ve got summer trips planned, don’t forget to pack a little orthodontic “go bag” with your toothbrush, floss, wax, rubber bands (if you wear them), and maybe even a small mirror. You’ll thank yourself when you need to freshen up after a snack on the road.

Snack Smart

We get it, summer is full of yummy temptations (hello, popcorn and caramel ice cream?!). Just be mindful of anything too sticky, crunchy, or chewy that could damage your braces. If you’re wearing aligners, remember to take them out before eating, and brush before putting them back in.

Some of our favorite braces-friendly summer treats? Watermelon, soft-serve ice cream, smoothies, and cold pasta salad. Trust us, your brackets will thank you.

Hydration = Happy Teeth

Drinking water helps keep your mouth clean and your body cool. Try to limit sugary drinks and sodas. They can sneak in and cause issues with your teeth and appliances. Keep a water bottle with you and sip throughout the day.

Don’t Skip Those Appointments

We know summer schedules can be busy (and let’s be honest, sometimes a little chaotic), but it’s super important to keep your ortho appointments. Each visit helps move you one step closer to your dream smile...and we want to keep you on track!

If you’re heading out of town, just give us a heads-up and we’ll work with you to adjust your schedule.

Show Off That Summer Smile!

We LOVE seeing your progress! If you take any fun summer photos showing off your smile, tag us on social media! It always brightens our day.

From all of us here at Perennial Smiles, we hope your June is full of laughter, sunshine, and smiles!

St. Patrick's Day

March 17th, 2025

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a Smile: Tips for Keeping Your Teeth Healthy and Bright!

At Perennial Smiles, we’re all about helping you maintain a beautiful, healthy smile—whether you’re wearing braces, clear aligners, or simply looking to improve your dental care. As St. Patrick's Day rolls around, we want to remind you to keep your teeth shining just as bright as that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

St. Patrick’s Day is a time for fun, food, and celebrations. From wearing green to enjoying delicious treats, it’s a day filled with joy. But amid the festivities, it’s important to remember that your oral health should be a priority—especially if you’re rocking braces or any other orthodontic treatment. Here are a few tips to help you enjoy the holiday while keeping your smile in tip-top shape!

1. Avoid Sticky Sweets

It’s hard to resist the St. Patrick’s Day-themed treats, like green cupcakes, cookies, and candy. While they can be fun and festive, many of these treats are sticky or sugary. If you have braces, sticky foods can get stuck in your brackets and wires, making it harder to clean your teeth and leading to potential plaque buildup or cavities. To avoid this, try sticking to treats that are easier to eat, like chocolate or fruit, which are less likely to damage your braces.

2. Drink Water to Stay Hydrated

Celebrating with green drinks or soda is common on St. Patrick’s Day, but sugary beverages can be a major culprit when it comes to tooth decay. They can cause cavities and stain your teeth. Water is always your best option to stay hydrated and keep your teeth clean throughout the day. If you’re feeling festive, opt for a glass of water with a splash of lime for a refreshing twist!

3. Keep Braces-Friendly Snacks Handy

Whether you’re attending a St. Patrick’s Day parade or hanging out with friends, bring along some braces-friendly snacks to keep your energy up without compromising your orthodontic care. Soft options like applesauce, yogurt, or mashed potatoes are delicious and easy to eat if you’re wearing braces. These snacks won’t get stuck in your wires or cause any discomfort while you enjoy the day.

4. Don’t Forget Your Oral Hygiene Routine!

After all the fun and food, don’t forget to brush and floss your teeth thoroughly! Make sure you clean your braces carefully to remove any food particles, and if you’re wearing aligners, make sure to clean them too. Carry a travel-sized toothbrush and floss to ensure your teeth stay sparkling clean, even when you’re on the go!

5. Be Careful with Chewing Ice

Chewing ice is something many people do without thinking, but if you’re in the middle of a St. Patrick’s Day celebration with ice-cold drinks, be mindful of your orthodontic hardware. Biting down on ice can damage your brackets or wires and cause delays in your treatment. If you’re craving something crunchy, opt for softer alternatives like raw vegetables, which can be both healthy and safe for your orthodontic work.

6. Wear Your Retainers (If You Have Them!)

If you’ve completed your orthodontic treatment and are now wearing a retainer, make sure to wear it as directed by your orthodontist. Not wearing your retainer regularly, especially after indulging in some fun holiday foods, can affect your results and slow down your progress. Remember, a little effort goes a long way in keeping your smile straight and beautiful!

7. Smile for the Camera!

St. Patrick’s Day is all about celebrating with friends and family, and there are sure to be plenty of photo opportunities! Whether you’re wearing green attire or sporting a shamrock-themed smile, don’t forget to smile big for the camera. A beautiful, healthy smile is always in style, and it’s the best way to show off the results of your orthodontic treatment.

In Conclusion

This St. Patrick’s Day, remember to have fun, but also be mindful of your oral health. At Perennial Smiles, we’re here to support you throughout your orthodontic journey, whether it’s a quick check-up, helping you with tips for better dental hygiene, or offering advice on how to care for your braces. If you have any questions about maintaining your smile during the holiday or need any advice about your orthodontic care, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from all of us at Perennial Smiles—may your day be filled with joy, luck, and, of course, a bright, beautiful smile!

Best Orthodontist Award

October 13th, 2021

Time really goes by fast when you are having fun and love what you do.  It makes the days not even seem like work.  Another year has passed and the Canton Repository held their annual Best of the Best competition.  This is a competition in which the community votes on various local businesses, such as best pizza, best auto repair, and best family physician in the area.

There are two different rounds of voting.  The first round is the nomination round.  This is when the community votes to nominate their pick of business for the best in whichever category.  After a set amount of time, the votes are tallied and the top five businesses of each category are selected and move on to round two.  During round two, the community will cast their votes again in the various categories for the top five to determine a winner!

The Best of the Best contest has recently ended and the votes were tallied.  I am pleased to announce that Dr. Morgan and the team at Perennial Smiles have been voted as Best Orthodontist in town!  This is also the 6th year in a row that our office has won and defended the title from other great nominees.

It is such a great and humbling honor for Dr. Morgan and our office to be voted as Best Orthodontist again.  We truly appreciate all the love and support that our past and current patients and family members give, as well as all the support from the other community members and businesses in general.   We value each and every one of you and realize we would not have this honor without you.  Thank you all.

We are excited and optimistic about what the next year will bring and all the new faces we will meet!  Dr. Morgan and our wonderful team will continue to uphold our values and keep serving this great community because we are all in this together.

Dr. Morgan and our fantastic team will continue to uphold our practice standards to keep serving this great community.  We love being here to bring out the best in people and literally put smiles on their faces.  When you love what you do, you never really have to work.
